Our History
Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging

Queer Futures Gloucestershire exists to create spaces where LGBTQ+ people, their families and allies feel safe, respected and able to thrive. Our work is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves dignity, fairness and belonging, regardless of their identity, background or circumstances.

This policy sets out our commitment to challenging discrimination, promoting inclusion and making sure our services are accessible to everyone who needs them. It guides how we work, how we treat one another and how we show up for our communities across Gloucestershire.

We expect everyone involved in QFG to uphold these values so that our spaces remain welcoming, supportive and free from prejudice.

Our Commitment to Intersectionality
Queer Futures Gloucestershire recognises that people do not experience the world through a single part of who they are. Our identities overlap and interact, and so do the barriers we face. Experiences of discrimination can be shaped by race, disability, class, gender, faith, rural isolation, immigration status and many other factors. LGBTQ+ people often sit at these intersections, and support must reflect the whole person, not just one aspect of their identity.

We are committed to creating spaces where people feel seen, understood and valued in all their complexity. This means listening carefully, challenging assumptions and designing our services in ways that recognise the different pressures, risks and strengths that come with intersecting identities. Intersectionality is central to how we work, how we plan and how we build belonging across Gloucestershire.

Respecting Equality, Diversity and Belonging Policy
Queer Futures Gloucestershire recognises that discrimination exists in society and that it can limit people’s opportunities, wellbeing and potential.

We are committed to tackling all forms of oppression, prejudice and inequality in line with the Equality Act 2010. This includes, but is not limited to, the protected characteristics of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex (gender) and sexual orientation.
QFG is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all users of our services, staff, volunteers and anyone we come into contact with.
Staff, volunteers and users of our services are expected to support and implement this policy by: actively
-
Challenging prejudice and discrimination and recognising the harm these cause to individuals and communities
-
Challenging stereotypes and promoting positive images and role models
-
Discouraging discriminatory language and other unacceptable behaviours
-
Working with users of our services to understand and overcome their own prejudices
-
Ensuring that QFG and all its activities are accessible
-
Considering the differing physical, mental, cultural and belief based needs of staff and service users when planning and delivering services
-
Seeking to engage widely with the communities of Gloucestershire
-
Seeking broad representation from the range of communities in Gloucestershire
QFG will monitor the implementation of this policy and review it regularly.
Note: “Staff” refers to all persons paid or unpaid, including volunteers and trustees involved in QFG activities.
